Project: A letter to your thirty-year-older self.

🎓 A Unique Lesson Setup

Today's class was really interesting because it was a mediation, but there was no available mediator, so the team teacher did it.
The lesson was about storytelling. The teacher selected this topic specifically because it relates to the students' project.

The students learned how to:

  • ✨ Spark their imagination

  • 🔍 Identify parts of a sentence, such as:

    • 📦 Nouns

    • 🎨 Adjectives

    • 🕒 Adverbs

They used these words daily but did not know their specific names.

🧩 Project Integration in the Classroom

Apart from that, the team teacher told me that we were going to include more project-related activities to complete most of the project in class 🏫.

She already:

  • 📝 Assigned homework in which students had to talk about their current routines

  • 🔄 At the end of each class, proposes an activity that includes:

    • Topics covered during class

    • Project-related content

💡 Example:
In the last class, they learned about modal verbs of obligation (e.g., must, have to).
Then, they wrote about obligations they thought they would have in thirty years using those modal verbs.

📏 Assessment Approach

Regarding the assessment of these projects:

  • The teacher created a rubric 📊 that covers both:

    • 🗣️ Presentation

    • 🖋️ Writing

  • She asks students to submit small parts of the project in each class to:

    • Connect topics 🔗

    • Make the experience memorable 🌟

🎨 Tracking Progress Visually

To keep track of their progress, the teacher wants to implement a visual strategy:

  • Students will color an image 🖍️ depending on how many parts of the project they’ve turned in.

    • For example:
If they’ve submitted most assignments, they can color 65–75% of the image ✅

  • This way:

    • Students can see their progress 📈

The teacher knows who has not turned in assignments 📂

Why Only One Project?
I asked the team teacher why we only have one project instead of several.
She explained that she prefers to focus students' energy and attention on just one, because:
  • 🎯 It helps students stay more engaged and focused
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 It avoids forcing parents to choose between different project presentations
  • This approach creates a more unified and manageable experience for both students and families.

    📝 P.S.

Also, the number of projects depends on the level

  1. Remember that we have different types of mediations, including self-directed ones, which you can review and adapt to your classes as needed. What you mention about projects is absolutely true—it often depends on both the level and the type of course. It is very important to keep this in mind when planning and implementing activities, as it ensures that the learning experience remains relevant and effective for students.
