Listening 馃憘
It was quite challenging to include an activity with a recording—or anything similar—because it was the QUIZ session. However, the students exceeded my expectations and did their best throughout this section.
In other sessions, I usually include all the essential listening tips. For example, listening for general information and listening for specific information are closely connected: one focuses on the main idea 馃, while the other targets details 馃攳. Both are important depending on what the task requires. Additionally, taking notes helps students stay attentive to the audio 馃摑, and predicting what will happen next sparks their curiosity and motivation.
Most of the time, I use listening for specific details to highlight the use of certain structures or to guide them in answering the questions proposed in the book .
My usual procedure is the following:
-
Play the audio once to get the general idea 馃帶馃挕.
-
Write some guiding questions on the whiteboard to help them stay focused ❓馃搵.
-
Play it a second time so they can answer the book questions in pairs or groups 馃.
-
Finally, we check the whiteboard questions together with the whole class 馃懃.
I consider these techniques extremely valuable because they allow us to track students’ listening progress throughout a cycle 馃搱. At the same time, they help learners develop a systematic procedure to get the information they need and complete the activities successfully ✔️馃幆.
